Saint Mary’s University invites applications for a Canada Research Chair (CRC) Tier 2 appointment in the Department of Chemistry in “Sustainable Chemistry and Materials” (i.e. photovoltaics, nanomaterials, water technologies, battery materials etc.). The successful applicant will be nominated by the University for a CRC Tier 2 and upon approval by the CRC Secretariat, be offered a tenure-track faculty appointment at either the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. In accordance with the regulations for the Canada Research Chairs (www.chairs-chaires.gc.ca/home-accueil-eng.aspx), nominees must be within 10 years of receiving their Ph.D. when they are nominated to the CRC. The successful candidate will be an emerging scholar who has demonstrated research productivity and potential to achieve international recognition within the next 5 - 10 years. The appointee will be expected to establish an independent, creative, and high-impact research program based on external research funding. The research program should complement the existing research programs at Saint Mary’s University. The appointee will develop as an outstanding teacher and mentor of undergraduate and graduate students, and will contribute to the development and delivery of core programs in chemistry.
The Department of Chemistry at Saint Mary’s University offers a nationally-accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry (Major and Honours). Undergraduate students are actively involved in faculty research and graduate students are enrolled in the Masters of Science in Applied Science Program. As well, the Department is home to the Atlantic Centre for Green Chemistry and has a number of faculty members active in Green Chemistry research. Faculty members in the Department have access to advanced instrumentation, including a new 300 MHz NMR, LC-PDA/ESI-MS, GC-FID/MS, ICP-MS, TGA-MS, GFAAS, SEM/EDX, Potentiostats (CV, ASV, etc.), DSC, FT-IR, single crystal X-ray diffractometer, and various spectrophotometers, all with excellent technical support. All laboratories and research spaces in the Department have been recently rebuilt as part of a major renovation of the Science Building.

Memorial University: High-Temperature Geochemistry, Department of Earth Sciences
The Department of Earth Sciences at Memorial University is seeking applicants with expertise in High-Temperature Geochemistry to fill a tenure-track position (Ref.: VPA #EASC-2014-001) at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank and build on existing strengths in inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), including laser ablation-ICP-MS, multi-collector ICP-MS, and related methods. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake technique development with potential applications to igneous and metamorphic petrology, geochronology, tectonics, lithogeochemistry, mineralogy, economic geology, environmental geology, and/or petroleum geoscience. Candidates with expertise in technique development related to in situ mineral chemistry and isotopic analysis, solution ICP-MS, U-Pb geochronology, radiogenic tracer isotopes, heavy stable isotopes, and/or fluid inclusion analysis are especially encouraged to apply. The position is subject to budgetary approval.
The applicant must be able to deliver undergraduate courses in geochemistry and develop graduate courses in his/her area of expertise. In addition, he/she will be expected to establish an externally funded research program, supervise graduate students, and collaborate with research partners both at Memorial University and externally, potentially including those in industry and government. Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of the following criteria: a PhD in Earth Sciences; an exceptional record of peer-reviewed research; teaching experience; and a demonstrated capacity to develop and lead a high quality research program in the development and application of ICP-MS methods in the Earth Sciences.

University of Manitoba: Head of the Department of Chemistry
The University of Manitoba is seeking an innovative and energetic individual to serve as Head of the Department of Chemistry for a five year term commencing July 2015 or as soon thereafter as possible. Successful candidates must be eligible for a tenured appointment at the rank of Associate Professor/Professor. The Head is expected to promote research and teaching in the Department through the encouragement of researchers, the development of graduate and undergraduate programs, and the continuation of a personal internationally recognized program of research in an area of chemistry or biochemistry. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in chemistry or biochemistry, an outstanding reputation as a researcher, mentor and teacher, a record of strong external funding, a collegial and inclusive leadership style, and a clear vision for the future of the Department.
The University of Manitoba has a student population of almost 30,000 undergraduate, graduate and professional program students and is the most research intensive university in the province. The Faculty of Science is the largest undergraduate faculty at the University of Manitoba, with over 4,400 students, and offers comprehensive education in all areas of science.
The Department of Chemistry consists of 25 faculty members (including 6 instructors) and 12 support staff covering the traditional and applied areas of chemistry and biochemistry.
