University of Winnipeg: Instructor - 12 Month Term Appointment

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Winnipeg invites applications for a twelve- month term appointment at the rank of Instructor from August 1, 2015 to July 31, 2016 (subject to budgetary approval). Duties will include instructing student laboratories in inorganic and physical chemistry, as well as other duties assigned by the Chair. The successful candidate is expected to have teaching experience and a graduate degree (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) in chemistry. Salary and level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

St. Mary's University: Tenure Track Faculty Position in Materials Chemistry, Green/Sustainable Chemistry, Organic Chemistry or Catalysis

The Department of Chemistry at Saint Mary’s University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Chemistry at the rank of Assistant Professor to commence July 1, 2016. The successful candidate will possess a Ph.D. in Chemistry and will normally have postdoctoral or industrial experience. Applicants with a background in the areas of Materials Chemistry, Green/Sustainable Chemistry, Organic Chemistry or Catalysis are particularly encouraged to apply. The incumbent will have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, a strong record of research contribution, and a high potential to obtain and retain external research funding. The successful candidate will develop and maintain an innovative, externally-funded research program in his/her field. Primary teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate classroom and lab instruction as well as curriculum development in the areas of Biochemistry and Organic Chemistry. Duties may also include graduate-level teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to play an active role in the administrative life of the Department of Chemistry, the Faculty of Science, and the University in general.
The Department of Chemistry offers a nationally-accredited Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree program in Chemistry (Major and Honours). Undergraduate students are actively involved in faculty research and graduate students are enrolled in the Masters of Science (M.Sc.) in Applied Science Program. As well, the Department is home to the Atlantic Centre for Green Chemistry and has a number of faculty members active in Green/Sustainable Chemistry research. Faculty members in the Department have access to advanced instrumentation, including a new 300 MHz NMR, LC-PDA/ESI-MS, GC-FID/MS, ICP-MS, TGA-MS, GFAAS, SEM/EDX, DSC, FT-IR, single crystal X-ray diffractometer, various spectrophotometers, and potentiostats (CV, ASV, etc.), all with excellent technical support. All laboratories and research spaces in the Department have been recently rebuilt as part of a major renovation of the Science Building.

Université de Sherbrooke: Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in environmental chemistry, organic synthesis and pharmaceutical chemistry, or materials chemistry

The Université de Sherbrooke invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of associate or full professor in the Département de chimie, Faculté des sciences. This position is subject to obtaining a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in strategic research areas in the Département de chimie, namely environmental chemistry, organic synthesis and pharmaceutical chemistry, and materials chemistry.

University of Victoria: Tier 2 CRC Chair in New Materials and Techniques for Health Applications

The University of Victoria invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor as a Canada Research Chair (CRC) Tier 2 in the Department of Chemistry in the area of “New Materials and Techniques for Health Applications”. The CRC program offers the possibility for nomination of outstanding researchers for professorships in areas that will further the institution's overall research priorities and enable them to maximize their contributions as centres of research and research training. Outstanding researchers in all fields of chemistry are encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will be nominated by the university for a CRC Tier 2. If appropriate, the position could involve a formal cross appointment in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, with teaching responsibilities assigned in the Department of Chemistry.

Requirements

In accordance with the regulations for the Canada Research Chairs (www.chairs-chaires.gc.ca/home-accueil-eng.aspx), nominees should be within 10 years of receiving their PhD. The successful candidate will be an emerging scholar who has demonstrated research productivity and potential to achieve international recognition within the next 5-10 years. The appointee will be expected to establish an independent, creative and high-impact research program based on external research funding. The appointee will develop as an outstanding teacher and mentor of undergraduate and graduate students, and will contribute to the development and delivery of core programs. Postdoctoral experience or equivalent is desirable.

Case Closed: Jason Hein hired by UBC

The University of British Columbia has hired Jason Hein. Jason completed his B.S. and Ph.D. at the University of Manitoba with Philip G. Hultin. He then held an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Scripps Research Institute with Prof. K. Barry Sharpless and Prof. Valery V. Fokin. He worked as a senior research associate at Scripps with Prof. Donna Blackmond before joining the faculty at UC-Merced in 2011. Congratulations Jason!

Memorial University: Tenure Track Position in Organic Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry at Memorial University, Newfoundland and Labrador, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective on or after January 1, 2016, subject to budgetary approval. The successful applicant will be required to develop an internationally recognized and externally funded research program in organic chemistry with focus in any of the following areas: synthesis and study of biologically relevant organic molecules, chemical biology, chemical genetics, medicinal chemistry, bionanometrials and related themes. The ideal applicant will complement existing research within the Department and fit within the framework of Memorial University’s research strategies (http://www.mun.ca/research/framework/themes.php). A PhD in Chemistry is required as well as post-doctoral experience in a relevant area. The new appointee will be responsible for teaching Organic Chemistry courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, first year chemistry as  required, and also develop additional course(s) in their area of expertise. The salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Chemistry Department has 21 faculty and, 80 graduate students in research programs supported by NSERC as well as other provincial, federal and international funding agencies.
