Mathieu Frenette hired by Université du Québec à Montréal

Congratulations to Mathieu Frenette, who has been hired by the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) as a Professeur. Mathieu completed his Ph.D. at the University of Ottawa with Tito Scaiano. He worked at a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University with Edward Solomon, McGill University with Gonzalo Cosa, and UMass Boston with Jonathan Rochford. Mathieu's research is in physical organic chemistry and applied spectroscopy.

Eric Bushnell hired by Brandon University

Congratulations to Dr. Eric Bushnell, who has been hired as an assistant professor at Brandon University in Brandon, Manitoba.  Eric is a computational chemist who completed his Ph.D. with James Gauld at the University of Windsor. He then held a Killam PDF at Dalhousie University with Professor Russell Boyd.

University of Toronto Mississauga: Assistant Professor – Bioorganic Chemistry

The Department of Chemical and Physical Sciences, University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Bioorganic Chemistry. This appointment will begin July 1, 2016.

Applicants must have demonstrated expertise in the areas of design, synthesis and screening of anti-cancer therapeutics and possess a publication record of excellence with regards to these criteria. The successful candidate will be part of the new Centre for Cancer Stem Cell Therapeutics at UTM and will also be a member of the graduate Department of Chemistry, University of Toronto. There will be opportunities to collaborate with UTM physicists and biologists, as well as with researchers on all three campuses of the University of Toronto.

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in chemistry, post-doctoral experience, research experience in bioorganic chemistry, a strong academic background, an excellent research record and excellence in teaching. Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, letters of reference and teaching materials submitted with the application. Excellence in research is demonstrated by publications in top-ranked and field-relevant academic journals, presentations at major conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements by referees. The successful applicant will be expected to develop and maintain an active, externally funded program of research and to contribute to the core undergraduate courses in the CPS chemistry programs as well as to the education and training of graduate students enrolled in the tri-campus University of Toronto Chemistry Graduate Program.

Tao Zeng Hired by Carleton University

Congratulations to Tao (Toby) Zeng from who has been hired as an assistant professor in chemistry at Carleton University. Tao is a computational chemist. He completed his Ph.D. at the University of Alberta with  Mariusz Klobukowski. He then worked as a postdoctoral fellow with P.N. Roy at the University of Waterloo. Since 2013 he has been a postdoctoral fellow at Cornell University with  Nandini Ananth and Professor Roald Hoffmann.

The Department of Chemistry, University of Toronto, invites applications for a tenure stream position at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in the area of Experimental Physical Chemistry, including fundamental studies of materials and/or biophysical chemistry. The position start date is July 1, 2016.
