Dr. Heather Reader hired by Memorial University

Congratulations to Dr. Heather Reader, who has been hired as a tenure-track faculty member in the Department of Chemistry at Memorial University. Dr. Reader is a biogeochemist who researches dissolved organic matter in marine environments. She completed her B.Sc. in chemistry at the University of Calgary, followed by a Ph.D. at the University of Georgia. She then held postdoctoral fellowships at the Technical University of Denmark and Lund University.

Simon Fraser University: Nuclear Medicinal Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry at Simon Fraser University together with the Life Sciences division of TRIUMF, Canada's national laboratory for particle and nuclear physics, invite applications from qualified candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Nuclear Medicinal Chemistry. With the goal of leading our expansion into nuclear medicine, it is our vision that this jointly funded position will strengthen the connection between SFU’s Nuclear Science Program and TRIUMF. The appointment is intended to take effect in September 2018, subject to final budgetary approval.

Outstanding candidates with a commitment to excellence in research and teaching are being sought for this position. The successful candidate will make use of the Life Science facilities at TRIUMF, and state-of-the-art research facilities at SFU (e.g. SFU High-Throughput Screening Facility, 4D Labs), to develop and maintain both an innovative, externally funded research program, and an excellent teaching record at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in Chemistry. Candidates working broadly in the area of nuclear medicine are encouraged to apply. All applicants will have a PhD degree and will normally have relevant. postdoctoral or industrial experience.

The Opportunity
The Department of Chemistry and Biology in the Faculty of Science at Ryerson University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in Chemical Biology at the Assistant Professor level, commencing July 1, 2018, subject to final budgetary approval.  This position is expected to synergize with, and complement current faculty interests, and sit at the interface of chemistry and biology. The Department of Chemistry and Biology is in a phase of dynamic growth, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Responsibilities
As the department continues to expand its research activities, the new faculty member will: be responsible for teaching organic chemistry, biochemistry, and molecular or cell biology at an introductory level;  supervise at both the undergraduate and graduate levels; establish and maintain a strong externally-funded research agenda; collaborate with other university departments, partners and the community; participate in departmental and university service; and support curriculum development in undergraduate and graduate courses in the biomedical sciences, biology and/or chemistry programs, as required.
Qualifications
Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to upholding the values of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion as it pertains to service, teaching, and scholarly, research or creative activities and will be expected to demonstrate their ability to work with a diverse student population.  The ideal candidate will have an earned Ph.D. in Chemistry or Biology (or a closely related field), and post-doctoral experience that bridges Chemistry/Biochemistry with Molecular/Cell Biology, as well as a strong record of post-graduate research productivity (e.g., a strong publication record in high-impact journals & conferences). The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate an interdisciplinary working knowledge connecting organic chemistry, biochemistry and molecular (or cell) biology, both in their research and teaching.  In addition, to possessing a strong research profile, the successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain an independent, externally funded research program; demonstrate the potential for high-quality teaching in organic chemistry, biochemistry, and molecular or cell biology at an introductory level and curriculum development; possess the ability to effectively train highly qualified personnel (HQP); and demonstrate a capacity for collegial service.

McGill University: Assistant Professor position in Computational/Theoretical Chemistry

Applications are invited for a tenure track Assistant Professor Position in Computational/Theoretical Chemistry. The Department seeks candidates who are committed to creating a vigorous, competitive, and independent research program in any area of inquiry related to Computational/Theoretical Chemistry. Applications in Materials and Nanoscience and/or Chemical Biology are of particular interest, but exceptional candidates in other areas of theoretical chemistry as well as senior candidates may also be considered.
